Gallery & Development Manager

Petersburg Area Art League is seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded individual to serve as our next Gallery & Development Manager.

This contracted position supports the daily operations, exhibitions, programs, marketing efforts, and continued growth of PAAL. The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working across multiple areas of a nonprofit arts organization and is excited to help connect artists, visitors, volunteers, donors, and community partners.

The Gallery & Development Manager plays a key role in helping PAAL expand its reach through strong communication, engaging programming, effective marketing, and meaningful community relationships.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing gallery operations and supporting exhibitions

  • Coordinating communication with artists, exhibitors, and community partners

  • Assisting with exhibition planning, installation logistics, and gallery programming

  • Creating and managing social media content, newsletters, website updates, and promotional materials

  • Supporting fundraising initiatives, sponsorship opportunities, and donor engagement

  • Coordinating community events, workshops, and public programs

  • Supporting volunteers and maintaining positive visitor experiences

  • Managing administrative tasks that support daily organizational operations

Requirements & Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • A minimum of an associate degree preferred, with a focus in marketing, communications, social media development, arts administration, or a related field

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience creating and managing social media content and digital communications

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities

  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating with artists, volunteers, board members, and community partners

  • Proficiency with common digital tools and platforms, including social media platforms, email marketing systems, website management tools, or related software

  • A willingness to engage with the public and support a welcoming gallery environment

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Gallery operations or arts administration

  • Exhibition coordination and artist relations

  • Nonprofit organizations or community-based programming

  • Event planning and promotion

  • Fundraising, sponsorships, or donor engagement

  • Marketing, public relations, or communications

Schedule: Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM

This position follows PAAL’s regular gallery schedule. Additional hours may occasionally be required for special events, exhibitions, programs, and community activities.
