Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis presents the work of artist Mona Dworkin, exploring transformation, womanhood, vulnerability, resilience, and the many ways identity is shaped through lived experience.

Presented at the Petersburg Area Art League, the exhibition brings together painting, collage, photography, handweaving, and collected materials to create a layered visual language rooted in memory, personal experience, and transformation.

Exhibition Overview

At the heart of Metamorphosis is an exploration of becoming. Dworkin’s work considers the tension between vulnerability and strength, fragility and resilience, and the ways women navigate identity, change, and self-discovery.

Her use of collage and collected materials introduces fragments of memory and experience into the work, allowing individual elements to be reassembled into something new. Through this process, Dworkin transforms familiar materials and imagery into compositions that suggest both personal history and broader human experience.

The exhibition invites viewers to consider transformation not simply as an ending or beginning, but as an ongoing process—one shaped by memory, adversity, growth, and the ability to see oneself anew.

About the Artist

Mona Dworkin is a Richmond-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice brings together painting, photography, collage, handweaving, and found materials.

Her work is deeply interested in the complexities of womanhood and the relationship between vulnerability and strength. Drawing from personal experience, memory, and observation, Dworkin creates works that explore transformation while embracing the beauty and complexity of lived experience.

Her artistic practice reflects a willingness to experiment with materials and processes, allowing each work to develop through layers, fragments, texture, and visual association.
