They'll build whimsical paper mâché sculptures decorated with rhinestones, sequins, and colorful paint, and experiment with abstract painting techniques to craft bold, layered backgrounds for their expressive self-portraits. Along the way, students will learn hands-on art skills, embrace creative expression, and bring their unique ideas to life through sculpture and mixed media.

They'll design original comic book characters inspired by themselves, learn expressive drawing and storytelling techniques, and create a two-page comic using watercolor, markers, and hand lettering. In a second project, students will experiment with charcoal, paint, oil pastels, stencils, and 3D elements to build a dynamic portrait on canvas. This class encourages personal expression, creative exploration, and hands-on skill-building—resulting in one-of-a-kind artworks that are as bold and unique as the artists themselves.
