Master’s candidate from VCU sheds light on PAAL’s permanent collection
On the second floor of 7 E. Old St. is a storage facility that PAAL’s visitors rarely enter. This storage facility contains a variety of materials used to host gallery shows and art education classes. But it also holds approximately 150 works from local students and artists that were acquired over the years through art shows and donations. To learn more about the works in their possession, PAAL president Ellen Ende allowed Janelle Wilson, a Master’s candidate from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, to organize and document PAAL’s permanent collection as part of her thesis project. PAAL announces its upcoming exhibit, in conjunction with Old Towne Petersburg’s Friday for the Arts! this Friday, July 9. Come help resurrect the past, and bring the present and future of PAAL to life, as the fascinating history of its building at 7 E. Old Street is told through artwork, photographs, and news clippings.
