Dear PAAL Members,
As the year draws to a close, I would like to thank everyone for a wonderfully productive year at PAAL.
This year has been very successful as we have accomplished much through our mission of enhancing the community through the visual arts. PAAL has been broadening its perspective to combine the traditional with exciting new techniques and exhibits.
- In October, we had a very interesting exhibit of digital photograph collages. The surrealistic images caught the eye of all with surprise and interest. Thank you, Clark, for a job well done.
- November proved to be exciting with paintings by Milly Horner Youngblood, always popular and unique. Thanks Milly for sharing with PAAL.
- After several years of discussion and debate, the Glin Casey sculpture, “A Place in the Sun,” located on the corner of Adams Street and Washington Street now belongs to PAAL. It will be moved to the Art Park some time in early 2015. How exciting to have this local sculpture placed in the Art Park for all to enjoy. Thank you to Mr. Jim Wilkerson and Mr. Brian Moore (the mayor of Petersburg) for making this possible.
- I challenge all of our artist members to begin planning now for our June members’ show. This year, instead of the traditional show, it will be a three-dimensional show. Therefore, put those thinking caps on and come up with that unique, creative and fabulous sculpture. Your entry can be an installation, soft sculpture, relief sculpture, or a sculpture in the round. The possibilities are endless and I look forward to many participants.
As we look forward to the new year, it will be one filled with new challenges and goals ... which we will accomplish only with the support of our members, sponsors and contributors. Please remember to renew your memberships by December 31 and to save January 24 on your calendar for “Casino Night.”
I wish each of you the happiest of holidays and a very prosperous, productive and creative new year.
