Summer Art Camp 2010 – In Review
In its 2010 program PAAL expanded the two-week Summer Art Camp to include both elementary school and middle school children. Based upon parent feedback from the 2009 program, this year’s program also expanded to offer full-day rather than half-day sessions. Further, through the help of Petersburg Parks and Leisure Services, for the first time the program was able to offer students breakfast and lunch each day. These changes helped PAAL accommodate 42 children during this year’s Summer Art Camp, up from approximately 20 last year.

Summer Art Camp 2009 – In review
In its 2009 program, PAAL expanded the Summer Art Camp for children to a two-week program.
There were 20 students that attended on alternate weeks (an elementary session and a secondary session). We had fun and better met the learning needs of different aged children. We invited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts to teach segments on Africa and Egypt. The elementary aged children experienced a taste of our affiliate even while their doors were closed for renovation. What a treat! Parents are requesting a longer day and longer sessions next year.
A special thanks goes to all of the volunteer teachers: Carolyn Jolly, Brenda Stankus, Sagan Lacy, and Pam Roberts, and also to Vernon Johns Jr. High School, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, and Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School students. We are looking forward to next year!
